Biography

Tyler is a top American distance runner, PhD, and Director of Development for MarathonGuide.com In the spring of 2010, Tyler graduated with both BS and MS degrees in Meteorology from Penn State. In September of 2012, he re-enrolled at Penn State with a position at the National Center for Atmospheric Research to earn his PhD through collaborative research. He earned his PhD before the 2016 Olympic Marathon trials and competed at the 2016 Olympic Marathon trials in February 2016.

While he was at Penn State, he earned All-American Honors in the 10,000m run at the NCAA D1 Championships in 2010. Since then, Tyler’s won 4 marathons: the Kauai Marathon in Hawaii in 2011-2013; and also the Iwaki City Marathon in Japan in 2012. In July of 2011 Tyler was awarded the Road Runners Club of America Roads Scholarship, which is an award to assist American post-collegiate runners who show great promise to develop into national and world-class distance running athletes.

Tyler has had a successful 3+ years under coach Steve Jones. Highlights include a half-marathon PR of 1:03:14, four top ten finishes at 2014 USA Championships and PRs in distances from the 10k (29:19-Peachtree) to the marathon (2:15:26-Twin Cities). He also earned the prestigious honor of being named the Collegiate Running Association Male Athlete of the Year in 2014.

Tyler is passionate about giving back and volunteering in the running community. He helped found The Kauai Marathon Youth Running Program and through a “Charity Bets” page he was able to raise approximately $5,000 for Kauai youth.

  2. We just got back from our first vacation in Kauai & being that we are from Colorado your name came up a few times. People around Kauai were so excited to tell us about the guy from Colorado that broke the speed marathon record. Congratulations to you!!

  3. I have recently started following you via twitter. we live in Pueblo, CO and have a planned vacation to Houston 2012. I had told my self that if my daughter Taylor broke 20.00 min during cross country I would take her to a race where Kara Goucher may be running. Well now wewill be cheering for you at houston.
